Jade Retiring?!?

Stunning news out of Cleveland, today as rumors abound that WMW's resident martial arts expert and current WMW Shoot Champion, Jade might be considering hanging it up. Her Contract expires this month and WMW Director of Talent Management is reporting that Jade has seemed distracted and 'Not very eager' in the talks they have had so far. Jade has been spending most of her time in Cleveland, despite her adopted home city of Chicago, Illinois as her tag team partner and close friend, Hecate is being cared for in Cleveland following that vicious hit and run attack back in 2010 that cut short Hecate's time in the ring.

If Jade does not re-sign, it would vacate the Shoot Championship, and will no doubt lead to many, many rumors as to whether Jade is done with wrestling, planning to jump to another company, or perhaps, jump into the MMA circuits. Only time will tell. Stay tuned to ESN for further updates as we are trying to get an interview with Jade to find out exactly what her plans are.

First Midwest Championship Challenger?

Terry Gaines - We are one week away from Wrestling Midwest's next event, Graveyard Shift 132, where we'll see the Hardcore Tournament continue to decide the Heartlands Champion, as well as the debut of Harlem Halladay. But, rumors are circling about who WMW Owner Brad Johnson will be choosing as the very first contender for the newly crowned Midwest Championship. For that, we turn to Jeff Benedict who is in our news room.

[The shot changes to a split screen to show Jeff Benedict standing in front of the ESN news room.]

Jeff Benedict - Hey Terry.

Terry Gaines - Jeff. What do we know?

Jeff Benedict - Well, we're getting word that a major announcement will be made very soon on who Brad Johnson will be choosing. As of right now, nothing has been set in stone. But, some sources very close to the situation are suggesting quite a few possibilities. The first two obvious choices are Kronin and Father Nathan. Both being the former Champions have rematch clauses and could enact those for this very opportunity. But, Xavier Langston has been seen in WMW Headquarters in meetings with officials trying to get them to agree to another match as he feels he was wronged in the whole situation.

Terry Gaines - Do you think that it is likely that they'll go with Kronin over Nathan and Langston?

Jeff Benedict - Well, that's just it. It's incredibly difficult to tell exactly if or what Johnson and his team will do. They've been on a path as of late that suggests giving an opportunity to Langston, or even someone like Jasmine Lucky, whose name has also been thrown into the mix, an opportunity, because they haven't had a big shot in the spotlight as of yet.

Terry Gaines - Wow. Jasmine Lucky? Really?

Jeff Benedict - Yes. And, of course, Hall of Famer Matrix, also known as Scotty Kames has been petitioning for another opportunity at Main Event gold in what could be one of his last runs in his career. They might give him the shot just to see what he could do with it.

Terry Gaines - Well, Father Nathan, as you had mentioned, is in this mix. But, what about his current condition. Would he even be healthy enough for that shot?

Jeff Benedict - That's definitely under discussion. After his fight against Hecate, a match that almost ended both of their careers the night that we saw end Druscilla's wrestling career, I mean, he hasn't been 100% since. We've all seen that. So, management is leery on putting him into another situation that could jeopardize his future. And of course, the last big name in the mix being Valora, who unmasked at GS131, and basically put Nathan on the shelf. If Nathan was being considered, she definitely took his shot away from him, and would be in line for a rematch, since she never got that rematch for the GLC before being fired from the company.

Terry Gaines - With so many names in the mix, is there any one name that seems like the favorite?

Jeff Benedict - At this time? No. No favorites. You could make a case for all of the names I mentioned before. But, hopefully, WMW Officials will make their plans public soon.

Terry Gaines - Definitely a hot topic in Wrestling Midwest and the entire industry. Who will fight Scott Vyper for the Midwest Championship? Only time will tell. For ESN, and Jeff Benedict, I'm Terry Gaines.

Terry Gaines - This is ESN Sports Update. My name is Terry Gaines.

Jeff Benedict - And I'm Jeff Benedict.

Terry Gaines - As we get further into the holiday season, we move closer and closer to WMW Blizzard 2011. This means, of course, that all the big names will be coming out.

Jeff Benedict - One person who we've been told will be appearing in action is Scotty Kames, otherwise known as WMW Hall of Famer Matrix.

Terry Gaines - Last we saw Scotty, he was forging together an alliance between himself and some of the newer fighters in Central Michigan Wrestling, the most obvious being the Zombie Union.

Jeff Benedict - Since his return in March, Matrix has been been on and off, always getting close to the his goals but never reaching them.

Terry Gaines - Matrix is known through-out his career, both in WMW and elsewhere, of being an "almost-great" fighter. He puts on fight of the year contender matches every time he's in the ring, but honestly Jeff? I can't remember the last time he won a big match.

Jeff Benedict - Well, we broke a couple months ago that he signed a six month contract, so he has until about February to make something happen.

Terry Gaines - We'll get our first look at Matrix since his short break at the next edition of Graveyard Shift. For ESN, and Jeff Benedict, I'm Terry Gaines.

Umbrage Announces Retirement

Terry Gaines - This is ESN Sports Update. My name is Terry Gaines.

Jeff Benedict - And I'm Jeff Benedict.

Terry Gaines - And we're starting the show with some sad news today. Wrestling Midwest Hall of Fame Fighter and multi-time Champion, Umbrage, has officially announced his retirement on Twitter late yesterday.

[The screen shows a graphic of Umbrage next to his twitter username (@wmw_umbrage) and the quote.]

Terry Gaines - Last night, Umbrage said, "It hasn't been said, but here it comes from me: consider me retired for now, folks." And, a lot of the wrestling world has been in shock ever since.

Jeff Benedict - It's a huge loss. But, you saw it coming. He's been with Wrestling Midwest for almost a decade. He was one of the major driving forces behind the creation and overall success of the organization. But, he's slowly fell off the map as of late. Needing time off due to injuries, and he just hasn't been the same.

Terry Gaines - From every wrestling fan here at ESN and around the world, we want to wish Umbrage good luck in his future. Umbrage, retires from WMW and the wrestling business late last night. For ESN, and Jeff Benedict, I'm Terry Gaines.
